On Sept 24th 2008, at the age of 26, I was diagnosed with Stage IV rectal cancer that has spread to my liver. You may be asking how is that possible at such a young age, that would be a really good question. I am very lucky in that we found the disease when we did, because if we hadn’t found it now, I’m not sure when we would have found it. The tumor was found during a routine scope procedure that my doctor recommended for issues I was having. The weird thing is that I was only having small symptoms for 2 months before the tumor was found. I look back now and with everything that was going on those 2 months, I still wouldn’t of seen this happening. Everything happened very quickly once the tumor was found, thanks to a great doctor. I meet with both my onocologist and rectal surgeon within a week and I started chemo within 2 week of diganosis. I had four rounds, every two weeks, of very aggressive chemotherapy. On December 29th, 2008 I had my first surgery to remove my rectum. After 8 weeks of recovery, I started the same aggressive chemotherapy again. I will have 8 rounds, every two weeks again, and then surgery to remove the right half of my liver that the cancer has spread to. After surgery, I will have a few more rounds of chemotherapy to make sure its all gone and then will enter remission. Now, my life pretty much revolves around this disease and my treatment, which really sucks but you have to live with what you were dealt. Positive note, my life has completely changed and its for the good. Life is far too precious and short to not appreciate the little things and good things you do have. The small stuff doesn’t matter anymore. I love my family and friends for all your support and love. You really have no idea how much that means to me and Bob and just how much it helps me get through every day. Thank you all for everything you have done for me, it means more than you’ll ever know. I can’t say enough how much you all mean to us and I will contimue to fight this until I have nothing left to fight. I will beat this and get back to the life I was living before, that is a promise that I can make to everyone.

I hope and pray for the best outcome with your treatments. Just remember you have a lot of people pulling for you- you are not in it alone.

December 9th, 2008 at 4:01 pmI wish you all the best. Recently my wife and celebrated her being one year cancer free. She had been diagnosed with rectal cancer. It was a grueling treatment but the results have been positive. I wish the same for you.
